Man Utd now set to intensify move for 6'5 "menace" after 3 years of talks

After finally agreeing a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo, Manchester United are now set to intensify their efforts to sign another impressive attacking addition.

Man Utd reach agreement to sign Mbeumo

After a long few weeks, United are finally set to get their man after reportedly agreeing a deal worth as much as £70m+ all-in to sign Mbeumo. INEOS had been spending recent weeks attempting to get that price tag down, but Brentford’s stubborn stance soon forced their hand. Putting the hefty fee aside for the moment, however, there’s no denying that Mbeumo will be an instant upgrade at Old Trafford.

The forward’s arrival will take United’s spending to around the £133m-mark after welcoming Matheus Cunha for a reported fee of £63m at the start of the summer transfer window. For all the criticism that they have received, INEOS have so far backed Ruben Amorim in the summer transfer window.

Not only did Mbeumo and Cunha score a combined 35 Premier League goals last season, but they also stood out for how they outperformed their expected total. Their records suggest that Manchester United are set to welcome two much-needed clinical finishers to their side.

To give context for just how much of an upgrade they’ll provide Amorim, Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund managed a combined seven Premier League goals last season.

After Mbeumo and Cunha, however, the Red Devils are reportedly not done there in the summer transfer window.

Man Utd set to intensify Sesko move

According to TeamTalk, Manchester United are now set to intensify their move to sign Benjamin Sesko, who is valued at a hefty £67m by RB Leipzig this summer.

The 6 foot 5 Slovenia star initially caught United’s eye in 2022, when they first contacted the forward whilst he was still at Red Bull Salzburg. And, having worked on their relationship with player and camp ever since, the Red Devils are in position to step up their interest and complete their attacking overhaul in style.

Like Mbeumo and Cunha, Sesko outperformed Zirkzee and Hojlund last season, with his clinical nature in front of goal also standing out when compared to their underperformance. If Sesko arrives to join the incoming duo then United could be going from one of the most disappointing frontlines to one of the most promising in the Premier League.

Described as a “menace” by U23 scout Antonio Mango, the 22-year-old is ready to take the Premier League by storm after stealing countless headlines in the Bundesliga.

Zola 2.0: Chelsea ready to submit bid to sign £61m "superstar"

You would do incredibly well to find any Chelsea supporters, or supporters of any club, who do not think that the club hit the jackpot with Cole Palmer.

The Blues reportedly paid an initial fee of £40m to sign the attacking midfielder from Manchester City in the summer of 2023, and he has been a rip-roaring success at Stamford Bridge.

Since making the move to London two years ago, the England international has racked up 43 goals and 29 assists in 97 appearances in all competitions for the club.

The left-footed star, who won the Conference League with the Blues last season, has scored a staggering 37 goals in the Premier League in his two seasons with Chelsea to date.

Palmer is well on his way to being recognised as one of the best number ten, or attacking midfield, players the club have had in modern history, at least.

However, he still has a way to go to overtake some of the other established names in that role, such as Italian icon Gianfranco Zola, who the current Chelsea star knew through FIFA.

Why Gianfranco Zola is a Chelsea legend

Last year, Palmer admitted that he did not know too much about the former Blues midfielder, but knew that he was a good player because he had an icon card on FIFA.

Whilst Zola may be an icon in FIFA, or EAFC as it is now called, he is a legend at Stamford Bridge because of what he achieved during his time at the club.

The diminutive star joined the Blues from Parma in the summer of 1996 and spent seven years in London, racking up two FA Cups, a League Cup, a Community Shield, and the European Cup Winners’ Cup.

In 2003, Chelsea ran a poll to find out who their supporters felt was the best player in the club’s history, and Zola won it with a landslide 60% of the votes, which shows how highly fans rated him at the time.

Whilst the likes of John Terry, Didier Drogba, and Eden Hazard, among others, have passed through the club since then, this shows that the Italian maestro is still a Chelsea legend from that era.

Zola ended his time at the club with a return of 80 goals and 44 assists in 312 appearances in all competitions, which shows that Palmer still has a way to go to catch up with his legacy.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are now reportedly eyeing up a move to sign another attacking midfielder who is even more similar to Zola than Palmer is.

Chelsea ready to bid for Bundesliga star

According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea are still “working” on a deal to sign RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons this summer.

The reporter claims that there is a “strong feeling” that a transfer will go through before the summer window slams shut at the start of September.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Plettenberg adds that the Blues are “ready to submit an official bid” for the Netherlands international, although there is no mention of how much the offer is going to be worth.

He reveals that a verbal agreement is almost in place, but the Conference League champions need to offload some more players before they go through with a deal.

Leipzig are reportedly looking for a fee in the region of £61m in order to sanction an exit for the Dutch playmaker, who could be Zola 2.0 at Stamford Bridge next season.

Why Chelsea should sign Xavi Simons

The Blues should push to get this deal done because the Bundesliga star could come in as Enzo Maresca’s own version of Zola, as a diminutive number ten who offers goals, assists, and flair.

RB Leipzig'sXaviSimonsreacts after the match

Whilst Palmer is undoubtedly a phenomenal footballer, he is somewhat unorthodox at times due to his lanky frame. That is not a bad thing, as the numbers speak for themselves, but Simons may be more of an aesthetic like-for-like for Zola in a Chelsea shirt.

The 5 foot 10 magician, who was described as a “superstar” by analyst Ben Mattinson, is a joy to watch with the way that he can dribble and move with the ball at his feet, effortlessly drifting past opposition players, as shown in the clip below.

As well as being an enjoyable player to watch, Simons is also an effective operator at the top end of the pitch, as he has proven himself to be adept at scoring and creating goals.

In the last two seasons, the Dutch sensation has racked up 21 goals and 21 assists in all competitions for Leipzig, which shows that he can offer plenty of quality in the final third.

As you can see in the table above, Simons ranked highly among his positional peers in the Bundesliga last season in a host of key attacking metrics, as a goalscorer, a creator, and as a dribbler.

These statistics suggest that the 22-year-old starlet has the potential to be an incredibly exciting and effective attacking midfielder, possibly playing alongside Palmer in the team, for Chelsea if they are able to get a deal over the line for him.

Palmer and Simons could be a joy to watch alongside each other as two attacking midfielders who have both proven that they can score and assist goals on a regular basis at the top level, which is why this could be a brilliant signing for Chelsea.

That is on top of the Dutchman potentially giving the older Blues supporters flashbacks of Zola with his similarities to the former Italian star, due to his diminutive style of play, height, and technical elegance.

Just imagine him & Ndiaye: Everton aiming to sign PL star alongside Dibling

Will Everton be active in the remaining weeks of the transfer market? David Moyes will certainly hope so!

Earlier this summer, Moyes asserted that he needs “nine or ten” new players before the Premier League season begins for his side with a Monday night trip to Leeds United.

Everton manager DavidMoyesreacts

Well, since then, the Toffees have made a few more additions, but many more are surely required, so are the Blues closing in on a deal to bring in a multiple-Premier League winner?

Everton searching for new signing

Not so long ago, as noted by Graham Ruthven of Total Soccer Show, Everton’s summer window had been quite “underwhelming”, with Mark Travers the new back-up goalkeeper and young left-back Adam Aznou arriving from Bayern Munich, while striker Thierno Barry was the headline addition, joining from Villarreal for £27m.

Dewsbury-Hall

However, in the last week or so, things have got a lot more interesting, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall joining from Chelsea for £28m.

Meantime, as reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Toffees have had a £40m bid rejected by Southampton for winger Tyler Dibling, although there is optimism an agreement can be reached, with the Saints holding out for closer to £50m.

The teenager was not even on the bench for Southampton’s EFL Championship opener on Saturday, a dramatic 2-1 win over Wrexham at St Mary’s, with Sami Mokbel of BBC Sport adding that he is no longer participating in ‘full contact training’, avoiding any potential injury that could scupper a move.

Everton though are not finished there because, as reported by GIVEMESPORT, they have opened talks with Manchester City, seeking to sign Jack Grealish on a season-long loan. The Toffees are hoping to add the Englishman, as well as Dibling, this summer, according to the report.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Rob Dawson of ESPN adds that Man City’s preference was a permanent deal but, with no potential suitors matching their asking price, a loan appears the most likely outcome, so will Grealish be Everton’s marquee signing as they prepare for life at Hill Dickinson Stadium?

What Jack Grealish will bring to Everton

Just four summers ago, Grealish joined Manchester City for £100m, which remains one of the most expensive transfers in English football history.

During his first two campaigns at the Etihad, he was a key contributor, but his importance has diminished in the subsequent two seasons, as the table below documents.

As the table outlines, Grealish’s importance at Manchester City had already been on a downward slope before hitting rock bottom last season, culminating in him not being included in the Sky Blues’ squad for the Club World Cup earlier this summer.

Nevertheless, his quality has never been up for debate, with journalist Henry Winter labelling him “magic”, adding that he “brings something different” to a team.

Meantime, Richard Jolly of the Independent believes that, back when he was at Aston Villa, he was ‘one of the most exciting attacking players in world football’.

Thus, Moyes and Evertonians everywhere will hope he can rediscover his magic on Merseyside.

If he does, the hope will be that he’ll strike up a good relationship with Iliman Ndiaye, who was Everton’s most-productive attacker last season, scoring 11 goals in all competitions. So, let’s analyse how the duo compare to one another.

As the table outlines, when using data from the most recent season in which Grealish saw more than 1,000 minutes of action in the Premier League, the duo are quite different, which should make them a deadly attacking partnership.

Ndiaye is much more the finisher, scoring nine goals, while a commendably high proportion of his shots hit the target, sat at two thirds for this metric, while he does like to dribble with the ball at his feet too.

Grealish, meantime, will fill the role of chief creator, boasting seven assists, as well as exponentially higher numbers when it comes to chances created, big chances created, expected assists and touches per 90, underlining that he is more frequently involved in play.

Jack Grealish

Thus, should the England international complete a move to Everton, this is a signing supporters should be excited about for sure.

Way better than Eze: Spurs considering huge move to sign £100m star

The supporters of Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to endure a significantly better Premier League campaign this time around, after their struggles were evident in the 2024/25 season.

Ange Postecoglou could only lead the Lilywhites to a 17th-placed finish, losing 22 outings, which ultimately led to the Aussie being sacked by owner Daniel Levy.

The responsibility of turning things around in England’s top-flight now falls into the hands of Thomas Frank, after the Dane left Brentford to take the reins.

He’s already been backed in the transfer market by the board, after Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus arrived on permanent deals, with Joao Palhinha linking up on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich.

However, despite the new season getting underway in recent days, the transfer window still remains open, handing the new boss added time to make the desired additions he wants in forward areas.

Tottenham Hotspur manager ThomasFrankreacts after the match

The latest on Spurs' hunt for new attackers this summer

Eberechi Eze has been the player most strongly linked with a move to Spurs this summer, with talks even being held with Crystal Palace over a move for the England international.

It’s also been reported that the player himself is also keen on a switch across the capital, but it remains unclear whether the hierarchy are willing to pay his £60m asking price.

Crystal Palace's EberechiEze

However, a new name has entered the mix over recent days, with the Daily Mail reporting that Frank is keen on securing a move for Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.

They claim that the Lilywhites are closely monitoring a deal for the 23-year-old, who registered 27 goal contributions for Unai Emery’s men last campaign.

It also states that the Villans don’t want to offload their attacking star this window, but may have to cash in on him in the coming weeks to satisfy their current PSR standing. It’s been reported this summer that Villa view him as a £100m talent.

Why Spurs’ latest target is a bigger talent than Eze

There’s no denying that Eze is an excellent talent, and one that would be a superb signing, as seen by his record of 16 combined goals and assists in the Premier League throughout 2024/25.

He registered two goals and an assist in his two league outings against the Lilywhites, demonstrating to the fanbase first-hand the quality he possesses in front of goal.

Their pursuit of his signature highlights the ambition of the board this summer, looking to back the new manager in his quest for success in North London.

However, it would be a huge investment, splashing around £60m on a 27-year-old, which could certainly restrict them from any sell-on given the fact he’s entering the back end of his professional career.

Such an issue wouldn’t be apparent with a potential move for Rogers, with the Villa star four years younger than the Palace talent – whilst also having the potential to get even better in the years ahead.

Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers

Despite his tender age, the former Manchester City youngster has managed to outperform Eze in recent months, offering Frank a better addition for the immediate and long-term future.

Rogers, who’s been dubbed “phenomenal” by Lee Hendrie, notched more goal contributions in the Premier League, whilst also posting a better shot-on-target accuracy rate.

Both components of his game highlight the added threat he carries in front of goal, having the individual quality to add further goals to the Lilywhites’ frontline.

However, he’s also showcased his creative nature, completing more passes into the final third, whilst also posting more progressive passes per 90 – able to find the likes of Kudus and Tel and allowing them to enjoy a season to remember in 2025/26.

There’s no doubt, given his higher levels of performance, coupled with his youthful years, a deal for Rogers will likely be more expensive than a move for Eze.

Added funds may need to be produced by the board if they are to sign the 23-year-old, but it could also prove to be a shrewd investment if he can build on his time in the West Midlands.

If the side are to make the jump back up the table and become a force to be reckoned with in England’s top-flight, top-quality additions are needed, with Rogers offering just that should he move to North London.

Real Madrid player ratings vs Real Sociedad: Kylian Mbappe, take a bow – Frenchman's heroics carry 10-man Blancos despite Dean Huijsen red card

Xabi Alonso's side scored two good goals and overcame a silly sending off to stay undefeated in La Liga.

Kylian Mbappe scored one and assisted another, and Real Madrid overcame a silly Dean Huijsen red card to grind out a 2-1 win over Real Sociedad.

Los Blancos were on it from the start. They had a goal ruled out after three minutes, when Arda Guler's clever strike was chalked off due to an offside in the build up.

VAR didn't intervene 10 minutes later. Madrid's opener was classic Mbappe, a dart in behind and drilled finish to give his side a 1-0 lead. He almost made it two shortly after, but his curled effort clipped off the post. But Los Blancos made it interesting. La Real threatened here and there, and were handed a lifeline on half an hour when Huijsen was sent off for dragging down Mikel Oyarzabal as he ran through on goal. Still, Madrid added a crucial second just before half time. Mbappe made it, beating his man and cutting back to a grateful Arda Guler, who poked home.

Los Blanos insisted on making it difficult for themselves, though. Dani Carvajal handled the ball in the box, and Oyarzabal converted the ensuing penalty with ease. La Real never found a crucial second, though. Thibaut Courtois made a handful of impressive saves and timely interventions to maintain the lead. It wasn't pretty, but Madrid got the job done

Pujara: Rahul should bat no lower than No. 3 if Rohit opens

Pujara: ‘Nothing later than No. 3, KL has to bat in the top order’

Perth has been won. On to Adelaide for the day-night Test next. And India have reinforcements arriving in the form of Rohit Sharma and, if all goes well between now and then, Shubman Gill. Should these two get into the XI straightaway though? Cheteshwar Pujara certainly thinks so, but feels the opening combination of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul shouldn’t be disturbed.”I think, for some reason if we can carry on with the same batting order, like KL and Yashasvi to open, Rohit could come in at three, and Shubman could come in at five,” Pujara said in a chat with ESPNcricinfo. “If Rohit wants to open, KL should bat at No. 3. Nothing later than that. I think he has to bat top of the order, because it suits his game really well. I hope we don’t tinker around with that.”That might well be the way it works out, with Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 0 from 23 balls and 25 from 71 balls in Perth, making way. But with Rohit, Jaiswal and Rahul, followed by Virat Kohli at No. 4, where does Gill slot in, if, indeed, he is fit for the game?Related

'Have no fear' – How Bumrah masterminded Perth rout

“Ideally No. 5. Because it allows him to come in at a time, even if we lose two wickets early, he is someone who can negotiate the new ball,” Pujara said. “But if he walks in after, say, 25 or 30 overs, he can play his shots. He can play his natural game. And in case we lose the first three wickets early, Gill walks in and saves Rishabh Pant for the old ball. [Pant] doesn’t have to face the new ball. I wouldn’t want him to walk in to bat when the ball is hard and new.”That would mean Pant, who batted at No. 5 in Perth, going down a spot, and Dhruv Jurel, who was so impressive for India A against Australia A in Melbourne just before the first Test, going out after scores of 11 and 1 from No. 6.Then come the allrounders, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar, in whatever order, because Pujara doesn’t want any changes to the bowling line-up in Adelaide. No R Ashwin. No Ravindra Jadeja. And no Prasidh Krishna or Akash Deep in place of Harshit Rana.”There is no question about it,” Pujara said when asked the question. “This bowling attack has given us success. [Jasprit] Bumrah looked really good. [Mohammed] Siraj was very good. And then it was supported by Harshit. He bowled really well, you have to accept that. He was playing his first game [for India], still he ended up pitching the ball up.”In Australia, it’s very easy to get carried away and sometimes when you look at the pace of the pitch, it offers a bit more extra bounce… But he was still looking to hit the right spot, good length, try and hit the top of off, and he has that ability.”So I think we should carry on with the same bowling attack. And Nitish also, he had a bit of a bowl. I felt that those four seamers are proper options and along with that, Washington Sundar.”That last name could be a bit contentious. Washington, as Pujara accepted, was chosen more for his batting than his bowling, and there are two battle-hardened veterans in Ashwin and Jadeja sitting out, awaiting their turn. But Pujara would still go in with Washington.”He [Washington] didn’t look really good when he started his bowling, but eventually he got a couple of wickets, he varied his pace, so Washy should be our spinner,” Pujara said. “Because he can bat well. The reason he was chosen in this squad is because he can bat. It will be important in the second Test match that, in case we lose a few wickets early, if the lower-middle order needs to contribute, Washington can do that role.”The second Test, in Adelaide, starts after a bit of a gap, on December 6. Before that, India play a two-day pink-ball warm-up game against a Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra.

Wolves in race for £23m winger with "electric pace", he's open to PL move

Wolverhampton Wanderers have now joined the race for a winger with “electric pace”, who is open to a move to the Premier League this summer, according to a report.

Wolves set sights on new forward after sealing Arias deal

Wolves have already bolstered their attacking options considerably this summer, having signed Jorgen Strand Larsen and Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo, while Jhon Arias became the latest addition to the squad earlier this week.

Steve Bull believes Arias could be a fantastic heir to Pedro Neto, saying: “Some quality has left the squad and we needed to bring in some replacements and from what I’ve seen of Arias, he’s quick and dangerous.

“We’ve missed that pace in the side since Pedro Neto left, and fingers crossed he can bring something different to the team.”

However, despite already making major improvements to his attack, Vitor Pereiera remains keen on getting another forward through the door, and the Old Gold have now joined the race for a new target.

That is according to a report from ESPN, which reveals Bayer Leverkusen’s Amine Adli is now on Wolves’ radar, with the Premier League side keen on a move, and the player himself is believed to be open to heading to England.

West Ham United are also in the race for Adli, and a deal is unlikely to break the bank, with Leverkusen looking to receive just £23m, despite the Morocco international playing a major role in their 2023-24 Bundesliga title triumph.

The teenager could be the next big thing…

During that campaign, the 25-year-old registered ten goals and 12 assists in 42 outings across all competitions, but his form has since dropped off, having struggled with injuries, potentially opening the door for a move to Molineux this summer.

"Electric" Adli could be exciting signing for Wolves

The Moroccan was one of Leverkusen’s most important players in the 2023-24 season, and he was also singled out for praise by Xabi Alonso upon returning from injury last season, with the Spaniard saying: “Having Amine back on the pitch is very important for everyone. His attitude and quality are extremely important for the team.”

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has provided an overview of the Leverkusen ace’s key strengths in the past, describing him as a “versatile & mobile player capable of playing anywhere along the front line”, while also claiming the attacker has “electric pace”.

The France-born forward missed 23 games for club and country due to injury last season, and subsequently his attacking output dropped, picking up just two goals and one assist in the Bundesliga.

However, if Adli is able to put his injury problems in the rear view mirror, he could be an exciting signing for Wolves, and it is promising news that he is now open to a move to the Premier League.
