Jackson has led Chelsea's attack for the past two seasons but he has underwhelmed at times, and if the Blues want to become an elite team again, many feel the 23-year-old is not the number nine they need. The club has spent heavily in recent years but more investment is likely to be needed again this summer to take Enzo Maresca's side to the next level.

The report adds that Delap will be available for £30 million ($40m) due to his release clause at Ipswich Town, whereas Galatasaray loanee Osimhen and Gyokeres are thought to be available for around £60m ($79.7m).

Before Chelsea can sign any players this summer, they take on Manchester United in the Premier League on Friday night. Champions League qualification would significantly boost their hopes of signing a prolific hitman.

Sheffield United have now made first move to sign highly-rated youngster

Sheffield United are firmly on the hunt for promotion to the Premier League, though they already look to be planning for the future regardless of what division they end up in next season.

Sheffield United's automatic promotion hopes hang in the balance

Despite suffering relegation from the top-flight twice in the last five years, United have once again positioned themselves among the favourites to gain automatic promotion this season under Chris Wilder.

The Blades have proven to be a resilient bunch despite conducting modest transfer business in comparison to some of their promotion rivals. Many of their summer and winter arrivals have came to Bramall Lane on free transfers or loan deals, yet they have risen to second in the table behind Leeds United with eleven EFL Championship matches left to play.

SheffieldUnitedmanagerChris Wilder reacts after the match

Bouncing back from losing out to the Whites last Monday, Sheffield United took three points at Queens Park Rangers last weekend to close the gap on the league leaders to three points.

While the run-in is set to dominate headlines over the coming period, the Yorkshire outfit will also have one eye on the transfer business they wish to carry out during the summer.

David Prutton has suggested that QPR defender Jimmy Dunne should be a target for Sheffield United once the window opens, but it remains to be seen the type of markets that could become viable at Bramall Lane in accordance with this season’s outcome.

Either way, Wilder has taken the step of casting an eye towards the future and there could soon be a new face at Bramall Lane if reports are to be believed.

Sheffield United take Partick Thistle youngster Jack Braid on trial

Football League World report that Sheffield United have taken Partick Thistle youngster Jack Braid on trial as they take a closer look at the 16-year-old forward, who has impressed at youth level this campaign.

Scottish clubs are becoming a priority for scouts south of the border due to the impact of Brexit, which has limited UK-based sides’ ability to acquire foreign players until they turn 18.

Likely to come in at Under-18 level should he impress Sheffield United Academy coaches, there are similarities between Braid’s potential move and the arrival of Ryan One from Hamilton Academical in 2023.

Braid wouldn’t be someone supporters will expect to star for the first-team any time soon. However, being able to build for the long-term with smart acquisitions at youth level would represent a degree of forward thinking.

Punjab Kings and KKR clash under new leadership

Punjab and KKR finished sixth and seventh last season – they have new captains to try and make the playoffs this year

How can KKR cover for Shreyas Iyer?

Big picture: New captains, new coachesPunjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders begin IPL 2023 with some similarities. After a disappointing previous season, they both have a new captain and coach combination this year – Shikhar Dhawan and Trevor Bayliss for Punjab, and Nitish Rana and Chandrakant Pandit for KKR – though Kolkata’s leadership change was forced upon them because of Shreyas Iyer’s injury.Their squads are also missing key personnel. Punjab are without Jonny Bairstow for the entire season, and will not have Liam Livingstone and Kagiso Rabada for their first game. KKR are without Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das, who are on national duty.Punjab have not made the playoffs since 2014, but like last year they start with promise, having bought Sam Curran with a record-breaking bid at the auction. KKR, on the other hand, had to put together their squad with the smallest purse, after spending a lot of money on pre-auction trades to bring in Shardul Thakur and Lockie Ferguson.Related

97 touches, 95% passing: Chelsea star is now as undroppable as Palmer

Chelsea made a huge leap towards the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League last night, claiming a 2-1 win against FC Copenhagen despite not being at their best.

Reece James and Enzo Fernández got themselves on the scoresheet during the victory, handing Enzo Maresca’s side a slim lead ahead of the return leg at Stamford Bridge next week.

The victory maintained the Blues’ 100% record in Europe this campaign, extending their run to nine games in which they have won without tasting defeat – the only side to achieve such a feat this season.

Chelsea manager EnzoMarescalooks dejected after the match

Maresca made several alterations to his first-team side for the meeting yesterday, multiple of which certainly worked in his favour, allowing the side to claim a vital win despite struggling in the first half.

Numerous players impressed during the triumph, undoubtedly demonstrating that the manager made the right call for the key European meeting in Copenhagen.

Chelsea’s star performers against Copenhagen

Fernandez may not have started the encounter last night, but the Argentine midfielder would end up having a huge say on the result, tipping the game in Chelsea’s favour.

The 24-year-old came off the bench at half-time, scoring the Blues’ second goal, which would prove to be the winner after Gabriel Pereira’s late efforts for the hosts.

He also managed to complete 100% of the 43 passes he attempted during the triumph, being the only player who featured for 45 minutes or more to achieve such a feat.

Tyrique George was another player who grabbed his opportunity with both hands in Copenhagen, staking his claim for a regular starting role after his showing last night.

The academy graduate registered an assist and completed 95% of his passes, making himself a nuisance in attacking areas by completing 100% of his dribbles.

The teenager wasn’t the only player to showcase their talent after their recall to the side, with one other first-team member now looking undroppable after their own impressive display.

The Chelsea star who now looks as undroppable as Palmer

Over the last couple of seasons, Cole Palmer has made himself a key player for Chelsea, which is understandable given his record of 60 combined goals and assists in 76 outings since joining.

His importance to Maresca cannot be understated, as seen by the Italian’s decision to include him in the squad for the knockout stages after leaving him out of the group phase.

The Englishman started the game but was unable to register a goal or assist for an eighth successive game, being outshone by fellow compatriot James after his return to the side.

The 25-year-old has had his battles with injuries over the last couple of months, returning to the side for the clash last night, but operating in a slightly unnatural midfield role.

James starred throughout, producing a perfect captain’s display at the heart of the side, firing home the opener with a long-range effort for Maresca’s men.

He featured for the entirety of the clash, managing a total of 97 touches and completing 82 passes at a completion rate of 95% – highlighting his impressive display on the ball.

The academy graduate also managed to win three duels, completed a tackle and won two fouls, producing a phenomenal display despite his unfamiliar role.

As a result of his showing, James was handed a 7/10 match rating by the Evening Standard’s Malik Ouzia, further demonstrating how impressive he was – with Maresca simply unable to drop him after such a showing.

The manager decided to operate with the Englishman over £106.8m signing Fernandez, showcasing the trust in his captain to thrive, albeit in a position he’s rarely featured in.

Maresca can’t drop James after his impressive outing, giving him a potential selection headache at the heart of the side ahead of the Blues’ clash with Leicester City on Sunday.

Man City plotting move to sign "fantastic" record-breaking ace worth £34m

As Manchester City set their sights on progressing their rebuild, those at the Etihad have reportedly set their sights on signing a talented young winger who already has a record to his name.

Man City transfer news

The Citizens look destined to be among the busiest clubs this summer after hitting their worst form under Pep Guardiola since his first season in charge. The Premier League already received a preview of what that rebuild may look like during the January transfer window when Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov and Juma Bah all arrived in what may just be the start.

Even after those arrivals, however, City’s struggles have continued alongside their injury problems. Just recently, having only just returned, Nathan Ake became the latest to be sidelined, revealing that he’s been playing through a fractured foot in what sums up the extent of his side’s issues throughout the current campaign.

It’s the type of problems which look set to signal a major overhaul this summer and that could yet see the arrival of one particular gem. According to The Boot Room, Manchester City are now plotting a move to sign Roger Fernandes, who holds the record for SC Braga’s youngest goalscorer after finding the back of the net at just 15 years old.

Now 19 years old, his rise has hardly slowed down and it will reportedly take a bid worth €40m (£34m) to prise the winger away from Portugal this summer amid interest from City, Manchester United and Liverpool.

"Fantastic" Fernandes is one to watch

Attracting interest from Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United, Fernandes could have quite the decision to make this summer regarding his future. As those at the Etihad look to rebuild, signing the teenager wouldn’t exactly be a bad start, especially given how positions within Guardiola’s frontline are more up for grabs than ever.

Jeremie Doku and Jack Grealish have both failed to cement their place this season, struggling to help Erling Haaland on the output front, and represent a drop-off in quality compared to Marmoush and Savinho.

In Portugal, meanwhile, Fernandes has been thriving for the last two seasons – earning the praise of Jacek Kulig in doing so. The football talent scout dubbed the young winger “simply fantastic” last season, as he continued to steal plenty of headlines.

With five goals and five assists to his name, there’s no doubt that the 19-year-old is one to watch as he sets his sights on breaking more records – be it in the Premier League or in Portugal.

    WHAT GUARDIOLA SAID

Guardiola told reporters on Friday: "Walker will not be with us at the Club World Cup."

Moreover, Fabrizio Romano claims that Walker will leave City this summer after Guardiola ostensibly confirmed the right-back was not part of his future plans and that Newcastle United's Tino Livramento is now their number one right-back target.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Walker is a City legend after playing 319 times and winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four Carabao Cups, and a Champions League, among other honours, over the past eight years. But it seems the former Tottenham man now faces an uncertain future after seemingly being made surplus to requirements at City.

High-flying KKR bolstered by Roy and Litton's arrival

Sunrisers too look a more cohesive unit after starting the season with two losses

Big Picture – KKR and SRH both on the riseKolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad were both thrashed in their first games of the season and there was no single noteworthy performer for either team. But brighter days are already here.Knight Riders have found some unlikely heroes. First, it was Shardul Thakur who did something sensational – with the bat – and in the next match, Rinku Singh took it to another level and did something beyond sensational. The cricketing world has still not recovered from Rinku’s five sixes in the last over against Gujarat Titans. Even MS Dhoni doing MS Dhoni things hasn’t been enough to completely upstage Rinku. It’s been three days since that miracle innings but Knight Riders will still be on a high. Two 200-plus scores – one defended and one chased – will have done their confidence a world of good.Sunrisers, too, look a more cohesive unit with the arrival of the South Africans after they’d struggled in the first two games. Against Punjab Kings, Marco Jansen bowled a superb spell and picked up two wickets with the new ball while captain Aiden Markram played a supporting role to Rahul Tripathi in the chase with a 21-ball 37. Legspinner Mayank Markande, who bowled an impressive spell of 4 for 15 in the match against Punjab Kings, will be key in the middle overs.Team News – Roy and Litton arriveKnight Riders are yet to settle on an opening combination. Rahmanullah Gurbaz has had three different partners in each of the three games so far and further change may yet be on the cards with Jason Roy and Litton Das having joined the team, and trained with them, in Kolkata. For Sunrisers, Abhishek Sharma is unavailable due to an injury. “Abhi is certainly an important player for us, and the message I’ve been told is he is still coming back from an injury and they feel he needs a bit more time,” captain Markram said during a press conference a few days ago.Harry Brook’s shift to the top of the order didn’t bring him a change in fortunes in the last game•BCCI
