Wolves fans debate Ruben Neves’ January links to Real Madrid

Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves has been linked with a move away from the club in January with Real Madrid reportedly looking to make him a member of Los Blancos, according to Spanish outlet Don Balon.

The reports suggest that super-agent Jorge Mendes would be key to any deal, and it is thought that €50m (£44.9m) would be enough to secure the defensive midfielder.

Mendes has solid links to the west Midlands club, having been the man to bring most of their Portuguese contingent to Molineux.

His first-ever deal was actually that of Wolves boss Nuno Santo back in 1996 while some of his bigger deals include Jose Mourinho to Chelsea in 2004 and James Rodriguez’s move to Madrid for £63m ten years later.

Neves has played an enormous part in Wolves’ successes over the last few seasons after joining the club in the summer of 2017 – he has gone on to feature 97 times, scoring 13 goals and assisting six more, per Transfermarkt.

Several fans have taken to social media to try and play down the links with one claiming that anything less than £100m would be bad business, calling the 22-year-old the ‘best deep-lying playmaker in the world.’

Another supporter said Neves was better than Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane as one other questioned when the La Liga giants would ‘pay the other half’ of the reported €50m figure.

The Bees will share their new venue with rugby union side London Irish, and for anyone who’s ever frequented a multipurpose ground, you’ll know that this more than likely means the turf will be in for a very, very rough paper round.

Thanks to drones, secrets are a thing of the past. And while having them around now means you can’t sit in your garden on a hot summer’s day, or get on a flight, without someone hovering around with a webcam and ill intentions, it does mean we can catch a glimpse of the Community Stadium’s progress. Swings and roundabouts.

Manchester United fans discuss Marcos Rojo’s potential January exit

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United could be about to have a precarious situation on their hands, depending on how manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer manages it.

Their centre-back Marcos Rojo has issued an ultimatum ahead of the January transfer window, which is merely stating that if he isn’t played, then he must be let go.

The Argentina international has made just 63 starts in the Premier League since joining the club back in 2014 from Sporting Lisbon and is yet to feature this season.

In the summer, a move to Premier League rivals Everton fell through and with the club splashing out £80m on Harry Maguire, his long-term future at the Red Devils appears to be wearing thin.

Some of the Old Trafford faithful shared their thoughts on Twitter on the 29-year-old’s recent comments.

One supporter said it was happy days and that he should be let go for £10-15m whilst another added that it should have been years ago considering how injury prone he is.

Rojo’s comments have been sparked by his lack of involvement at international level after missing out on Argentina’s Copa America squad in the summer whilst he didn’t feature this week in their 0-0 friendly against Chile.

Southampton should’ve prioritised a centre-back instead of more attackers this summer

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Admittedly, the transfer window is a tough place for Premier League clubs to manoeuvre in nowadays.

European sides are aware of the huge influx of TV money in English top-flight clubs’ bank accounts, whilst Premier League sides can hold out for huge fees from divisional rivals – just look at Harry Maguire’s £80m move to Manchester United as an example of that.

However, despite this, there are few excuses for Southampton not going out and substantially upgrading their backline this summer.

The Saints’ defence was awful last term, conceding 65 goals across 38 league games – relegated Cardiff only conceded four more than that figure.

Centre-back Wesley Hoedt isn’t too popular amongst many supporters, seen by their response to one specifically poor performance and their hopeful reaction to him being linked to AC Milan.

Another centre-back in Jack Stephens faced criticism for his performance in the dismal 3-0 loss to Burnley on the opening day, as he lined up in a back three alongside Jan Bednarek and Jannik Vestergaard with Yan Valery and Ryan Bertrand as wing-backs.

So, with issues at the back as clear as these, why did the Saints then go and splash an initial £15m on Che Adams from Birmingham, and a fee that could rise to £15m on 20-year-old Mali forward Moussa Djenepo?

After that, it became apparent that sales were needed before Ralph Hasenhuttl could add another player to his squad, with this report stating that the Austrian was eyeing up a centre-back if the aforesaid happened.

Only on deadline day did a centre-back arrive in the form of Kevin Danso, with the 20-year-old joining on loan from Augsburg. But even then, he doesn’t feel like the certified defence-fixer that the Saints need.

The South Coast side’s transfer priorities should’ve been flipped around, with defensive recruits targeted before attacking additions. Having conceded five times already this season in the Premier League, Saints are already paying the price.

Everton Transfer Roundup: No plans to sign Costa, Mirallas could leave, Delph interest

[ad_pod ]

Friday’s Everton transfer roundup was comprised of Russian interest in a Nigerian winger, a first professional contract for a youngster and an update on a Serie A defender. Today’s edition includes news on a former Chelsea striker, the potential departure of a Belgian international and a rumoured bid for an England midfielder.

Everton do not want Costa

According to The Liverpool Echo, Everton do not plan on signing Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa this summer. The Daily Mail had reported that Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri had ordered the Goodison Park outfit to bring in the Spanish international, but The Echo has poured cold water on that claim.

Mirallas heading for Standard

Kevin Mirallas could soon join Standard Liège according to Voetbal24. The 31-year-old forward spent last season on loan with Italian side Fiorentina and scored three goals in 30 appearances in all competitions for La Viola.

Toffees eye Delph

The Sun is reporting that Marco Silva and co are looking to sign Manchester City’s Fabian Delph this summer. The 29-year-old former Aston Villa star, who lifted the Premier League title last season, could reportedly be available for £16m as he looks to boost his England hopes.

Arsenal fans excited for the future after Reiss Nelson comments

[ad_pod ]

After enjoying a successful loan spell at Bundesliga side Hoffenheim last season, many at Arsenal would have hoped Reiss Nelson could return to the Emirates as a far improved player.

The 19-year-old’s final outing of a long campaign saw him win and convert a penalty in England U21s dramatic 3-3 draw with Croatia in the U21 European Championships, and the winger later revealed that he would be heading back to the Gunners for the new season.

Per The Times, he said: “I want to go back to Arsenal & play. I’m more mature now. Hoffenheim made me grow as a person. I’m Arsenal through & through. All my family support Arsenal. That’s an interaction I have with the fans. It’s good. They support the young talent coming up through.”

After hearing Nelson’s comments, many Gunners fans took to Twitter to reveal their excitement at seeing one of the club’s promising academy products essentially commit his future to the club.

Indeed, loads of supporters of the north London side expressed their hope that Unai Emery would finally give the winger a chance in the first-team and declared him a “ray of hope” after a disappointing end to the campaign last season.

‘Chin up and go again’ – Palace fans react to Wan-Bissaka’s England U21 display

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace fans have given a mixed response to defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s performance and last minute own goal at the U21 European Championships on Tuesday.

England were leading heading into the final two minutes of normal time against France before they were pegged back with a minute remaining.

Then, in the fifth minute of added time Wan-Bissaka turned into his own net after attempting to clear an effort from a French corner.

Many Palace fans believe the performance has taken value off of the right-back’s reported £50m upfront price tag.

But there are also those who suggest he is still a top prospect and that the game was a mere blip in the 21-year-old’s career.

The Englishman has been the subject of speculation surrounding his future at Selhurst Park amid a bid from Manchester United worth around £50million.

And last night’s display added fuel to the fire for those criticising him as well as those defending him.

Sheffield Wednesday: Tying up Keiren Westwood contract could be the best business the club does all summer

Keeping Keiren Westwood at Sheffield Wednesday is a must, right?

The veteran goalkeeper showed everyone that he still had what it takes to be a top-class number one in the Championship when he was re-established to the side following Steve Bruce’s arrival as manager – Jos Luhukay, what were you playing at?!

His, like so many of his team-mates, deal with the club is set to expire this summer and there had been doubts about whether the Owls would be able to come to an agreement with him about extending his stay.

And, according to Alan Nixon, it seems that he may be about to put pen-to-paper over a new deal and it seems he could be ready to commit his future for a couple of years, as is Liam Palmer as well.

The Sun journalist took to Twitter to share the news, stating: “Very positive signs about a deal for Westwood and Palmer. Word is agreed to give both a couple of years.”

Indeed, keeping Westwood at Hillsborough would be a huge deal that will have the Wednesdaynites celebrating, however, it could also be the biggest one they complete all summer.

It would not be a surprise if Bruce was able to recruit a couple of players to try and strengthen his side for his first full season in charge, however, keeping the Republic of Ireland international in between the sticks is vitally important.

Westwood, despite his age, still has plenty left to offer the club and if his performances in the last four months or so were anything to go by, then he will definitely have a role to play next season and could finally help them get to the play-offs, or maybe even go one better.

Sheffield Wednesday fans, how big do you think getting a deal done for Westwood will be for the club’s future? Do you think it could be the best piece of business the club could do this summer? Let us know below!
